Reformulating computational social science with citizen social science: the case of a community-based mental health care research

Abstract Computational social science is being scrutinised and some concerns have been expressed with regards to the lack of transparency inclusivity in researches. However, how computational can be reformulated adopt participatory inclusive practices? And, furthermore, which aspects shall carefully considered make possible this reformulation? We present a practical case that addresses challenge collectively studying interactions within community-based mental health care. This study done by revisiting revising methods such as dilemmas game theory incorporating use digital interfaces run experiments in-the-field. The research framed emergent citizen or where shared practices are still lacking. identified five key steps process introduce practices: framing, design, experimental spaces, data sources, actionable knowledge. Social protocols need reconsidered an experiential activity enables participants self-reflect. Co-design dynamics building working group outside academia important initiate socially robust knowledge co-production. Research results should support evidence-based policies collective actions put forward civil society. inclusion underserved groups discussed way new avenues jointly intricate ethical aspects. Finally, paper also provides reflections explore particularities further enhancement dimensions science.
